2/16/2024 0 Comments Change mac shortcuts to windowsI've been struggling with this issue regularly for the past 2.5 years, and on and off for about 2.5 years before that. If something funny happened after the first try, hit undo. If that didn't work, try the control key instead. Just stab at the Windows key first on the Windows machine. And you'd struggle yourself remembering shortcuts and the manual would now be out in left field. But then nothing would make sense to a "native" on the more altered system. I think you could maybe re-shuffle everything to make one system match the other. Any remote desktop style control no longer has access to right-click (control-click) menus. However, the standard mouse right-click hot key for control-click still makes a control-click in Reaper if you do that. If you're used to control-clicking for context windows, you might not like that. This stops it from being used by the OS though. In the OSX version of Reaper you can add the control key as an additional modifier key. Some of the Mac command key shortcuts are mapped to the Windows key and some are mapped to the control key in Windows. I suspect the root cause of the madness is that Windows split up the command modifiers between the Windows key and the control key way back when they originally plagiarized Mac. ![]() Would really appreciate some insights! thanks! I guess I could only use custom shortcuts that Never use the "Mac/Win" keys, and then any cusomizations would maintain consistany, and the native ones i would just have to memorize the differences.Īny thoughts? This is been bugging me for years and I'd really like to find a solution that would allow me to move across systems with some fluidity and not have all sorts of crazy tweaks to setup to make that happen. Though even that is not super practical, at least in terms of solving this issue. My best solution I've come up with so far is to not alter any action shortcuts, that way when I move across systems, there is some consistency. What I would love to be able to use my customized setup across the two OS's without my whole workflow being turned upside down, or having to spend a bunch of time (and brain power) having 2 different workflows on the different OS's. Then I you add the variable of my own, highly customized setup, it's a complete mess (nearly) and really unwieldly to keep track of what key commands have become what. So I find when I switch from one OS to the other, it's really almost like having to relearn the shortcuts. I've tried different keyboard override programs that will reassign keys to mimic the ascii(?) assignments, though they always are a mess. ![]() I mostly use a Mac though have some windows machines as well, or have gone to studios and ran Reaper on their windows machine.Īs a preface, I do use custom set of keyboard shortcuts, though I find this issue is still relevent even with the default keyboard shortcuts.īasically my issue is this, the "Mac" key and "Windows" key completely change my shortcuts and workflow across the two different OS's. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or thoughts about a reoccurring issue I have.
